Just some things we noted about our trip to the Workcamp in Lockport NY
-welcome banners coming into town and posters throughout the town would show the Workcampers that our community is behind this effort and appreciates them being here
-we need to be prepared in case July 1-July7 is a rainy week, which will mean having our own crews ready to go out for a week or two after Workcamp is over and finish jobs that the Workcampers could not complete due to weather
-the site write-ups need to be as detailed as possible to avoid confusion, because while the crews are organized based on skill level, this is not a perfect system
-youth volunteers from our area churches will be play an important role in Workcamp preparation, welcoming Workcampers, and cleaning up afterwards
-in our training meetings at the Lockport High School, Central United Methodist Church as a Co-Sponsor appeared to be on track and even ahead of the game in terms of preparations to host a Workcamp next summer- we felt good about that!

This blog may just be another FUN FACTOR in this whole adventure, eh?
Workcamp participants are asked to continually look for “God sightings” as they go about their workweek. Some talk about their residents making them cookies, some talk about the way their crew comes together during the week, others talk about how someone on the Workcamp team came to their rescue when they needed something.
My “God sighting” on Tuesday night was a group of people that are coming together because they want to make a difference in the lives of others less fortunate.
Let’s have fun with this!!
Thanks everyone.

Our Team Leaders last met on Tuesday September 5. Thanks for your attendance and ongoing work you all are doing to make this project a reality. We realize the time and effort all of you are putting into this project in the midst of your busy lives. Please know that your efforts are bearing fruit! This time last year we were just beginning to seek the support of the Church to begin our Co-Sponsorship with Group Workcamps. At this point we are well on our way to achieving our financial goal for materials, community members are becoming more aware of what Workcamp is all about, and we are getting calls on our Workcamp Hotline seeking applications. This is truly God working in all of us and I pray that those we serve will be touched deeply by Him through our efforts.

I don’t know who, if anyone, had Cavages’ farm stand for a poster location, but I was in there last evening and since I was there, I asked if I could post one. The young lady was very cooperative and said she would post it on the window for me. If anyone goes in there maybe they could check to be sure it’s gotten up in a visible location. Thanks!

Eureka!!!!! We have climbed yet another rung on the perverbial ladder of completing the task God has set before us. The task being, Jim Shelp could no longer head the ladder team due to an increase in his business demands. I spoke with Jack “the ladder man” Zipperlen and Allyn “second in command” Bartholomay and they have agreed to lead the ladder team. Thank you very much Jack and Allyn.

GOD IS GOOD! tonight (11/8) the Trustees of CUMC voted to move our whole insurance package to Church Mutual Insurance AND they will cover Workcamp….. FOR NO ADDITIONAL COST! THIS SHOULD BE IN EFFECT BY NEXT TUESDAY. A HUGH Thank You to Scott Leet who worked so very hard to help us get this insurance AT THE COST of losing CUMC’s policy.
